How does it work?
The Fresno Bee’s Scoopy mascot celebrates his 70th birthday on Sept. 4 and we want to make his day special. Scoopy was created by Walt Disney himself and debuted in The Bee with his twin, Gaby, on Sept. 4, 1943. Though Walt Disney didn’t do commercial work, Eleanor McClatchy convinced him to create the McClatchy mascot for a $1,500 donation to the Army Relief Fund. Scoopy has provided fun and information (like the weather) to our readers ever since.
Now, we want you to help us celebrate! It’s easy.
Bake a special cake for Scoopy’s 70th and decorate it using all your creativity. Take a photo of your masterpiece and upload it to our contest. Our readers will then have a chance to vote for their favorites.
Photo submissions must be uploaded to the contest no later than Sunday, Aug. 25. Voting will take place from Monday, Aug. 26-Sunday, Sept. 1. Users can vote up to 10 times per day. Our winners will be announced on Scoopy’s birthday, Sept. 4.
Are there prizes?
Yes! Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
